Destiny.

It brought me here.

My early childhood indicates I was born to be a journalist.

From nagging my mother and teachers with never ending questions, investigating answers when theirs didn’t satisfy me. To sharing all information throughout the neighborhood as effectively as possible. My aunt sarcastically labeled me ‘the reporter’.

Code for don’t say a word around her. Perhaps she can be credited for planting the seeds of this profession in my mind.

But it wasn’t until 2001, when the high school journalism professor spotted my talents and transformed me from a creative writer to a reporter. It was then my love affair with this profession began. I was fortunate enough to attend the Dow Jones Minority Workshop in 2002 that gave me a better understanding of the profession, its demands and challenges.

It also allowed me to explore other aspects of the field that I would excel at. It was at this workshop I was inspired by the guest photographer and his amazing gift of capturing moments. His work is still fresh in my mind and a constant inspiration to improve my skills.

My professional career is just beginning but it has been an amazing journey so far. I am passionate about being a journalist and every aspect of the newspaper industry.

Throughout college my main emphasis has been on writing, but I also indulged in photography and design. I graduated early from college, but I spent my time like an energetic octopus on rollerblades taking advantage of the vast opportunities student life provided. I worked extensively with the college media to improve my writing skills and learn new technologies and explore dying arts like dark room techniques.

I would love to hear your feedback, criticism and input on all my work and hope you will take the time to leave a note.
